CAAR is a three year pilot project utilizing new and innovative tools to promote Aboriginal Apprenticeships in Northern Ontario.
Apprenticeship Program
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 09:47 | by adminHave you been working in your community as a carpenter, electrician or plumber for a few years? You may qualify to register as an Apprentice with MTCU or the Union. You will need your prior learning experience verified by your past employers. After you register as an apprentice, we can help you find a placement in the construction of the Meno-ya-win Hospital or the Hostel. The starting salary is about 45 % of journeyman's wages. After the probation period of 60 days, your pay will be based on your assessment and level of skill.
C of Q Training & Tutoring Program
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 09:42 | by adminIf you have worked for your community or any other employer either as a carpenter, electrician, or a plumber and you have worked more than 5 - 10 years (depending on trade), you may qualify for our C of Q Training & Tutoring Program. Commitment to stay and study in Sioux Lookout for 10 weeks (one week in Dryden) is required as candidates will receive safety certificate training (ie: Fall Arrest, First Aid, Hoisting & Rigging, etc.) and tutoring to challenge the provincial exam for the certificate of qualification in their chosen trade.

What is included in the assessment?

- Educational and employment background
- Employability skills
- If trade specific training is required
- What required levels apprenticeship training are needed to be complete
How do I get involved?

Do I get paid?
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 16:14 | by adminApprentices get paid by their employer while gaining work experience, and their wages increase with their level of skills and the amount of time spent on acquiring their ticket. You must be prepared to take the theory aspect of the trade out of town. We are currently working on acquiring a classroom to be located in Sioux Lookout.
What is an Apprenticeship?
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 16:14 | by adminApprenticeship is a combination of hands on (on-the-job training) and virtual classroom instruction. The apprentice works with a journeymen ( trade professional) in which the apprentice learns the practical hands-on aspects of the trade.
