Journeyman Carpenter from K.I.

He has 20 years carpentry experience, learned his craft working in his home community and working with outside professionals in Sioux, Thunder Bay.

This spring Dale challenged the C of Q exam and passed.

He works on the hostel part of the new hospital and loves being on large job sites where he feels at home. He strongly feels that First Nation carpenters from the north need to experience the way construction is done in rural and urban settings. He feels that carpenters on reserves are not exposed to the different types of construction and lack that kind of experience and this causes problems when taking the C of Q exam. He suggests the assessment of trainee's should be more thorough, to really look at their job experience as well as their social readiness of living in town and not just to grab anybody that shows interest. If you want to come down for training, Dale's advice is:

Get yourself a good tutor. Go to school and learn. Make sure you have a good knowledge of the types of construction they do down here.
