Video to Encourage Aborginal People to Consider Trades Careers to be released October 7, 2011!

SLAAMB along with the Northwestern Ontario Building Trades and the Northern Ontario Steering Committee has developed a video that encourages Aboriginal People to complete their grade 12 education with an emphasis on good math and English skills in order to get into apprenticeship in the various trades.

The video will be ready October 7th, 2011 then it will be sent to the various First Nation communities and native organizations.  Watch for it on our website or at your community band office or school!

For your information, it is believed that there will be a skills shortage within the trades over the next 5 to 10 years. Aboriginal People especially the First Nations members can help to address the skills shortage if we prepare them now particularly through the apprenticeship programs.  The trade unions have opened their doors to have Aboriginal People especially the First Nations members to join them now to address the skill shortages.

If you have any questions, please contact Bob Bruyere at the SLAAMB office 1-807-737-4047 or toll free 1-800-563-2183 (good only within the 807 area code).
