SLAAMB Success Story!

My name is Celine Favell-Roulette and I am from Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. I recently graduated from St. Lawrence College with my Early Childhood Education diploma. This program was funded by Equaywuk Women's Group and SLAAMB, and the program was delivered through distance education.

Since graduating with my E.C.E. diploma, I was able to have 1 full year of University taken off of my 4 year degree. This diploma was very helpful because I was able to be put into my 2nd year of my Honours Psychology degree which means I can graduate in less time. The courses I had to take at St. Lawrence College have been extremely helpful in my University studies and I found that I now aquire a lot of knowledge about the development of children and psychology related subjects.

I would like to encourage Aboriginal people to further their education, and I would definitely recommend the Early Childhood Education program as a stepping-stone to furthering their educational goals. Also, it is good to create high standards for yourself, as I did in school and this is what allowed me to obtain my diploma with distinction and now be enrolled in the Honours program at Lakehead University.

I would like to thank Equaywuk Women's Group and the SLAAMB organization for encouraging post secondary education and its importance for our Aboriginal people, and for being supportive in their endeavours.

Meegwetch!
