SLAAMB was successful in getting two (2) new proposals approved by Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). The two propoals are in partnerships with these AHRDAs - Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong (GCT# 3), U.O.I., O-GI, MNO and Mattawa First Nations Council. These projects were approved to start September 28, 2009 and end March 31, 2011. Please see the descriptions below:
a) SLAAMB has partnered with Wasaya Group of Companies to hire and/or train then employ up to 38 Aboriginal People from Northwestern Ontario. The positions include up to ten (10) pilots with 5 getting their necessary endorsements and 5 getting their private and commercial licenses with the needed endorsements (we will take up to 20 interested candidates to the flight school in Steinbach MB for one week training then select the 5); ten (10) managers for the bases in Thunder Bay, Red Lake, Pickle Lake and Sioux Lookout; 7 to work in Wasaya's prop shop and petro station in Thunder Bay, five (5) aircraft mechanics, and possibly 5 flight attendants.
Ability to speak either Oji-Cree, Ojibway or Cree languages is considered a strong asset.
NOTE: We will also be offering upgrading to obtain grade 12 which includes the ACE for 12+ participants at the SLAAMB trades centre in Sioux Lookout starting January 4, 2010.

b) SLAAMB has partnered with the Men-Ya-Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout to train then employ up to 20 First Nations People from Northwestern Ontario as Certified Medical Interpreters. Everyone applying MUST fluently speak either Oji-Cree, Ojibway or Cree and English languages prior to being accepted into this one (1) year course. The course will start Monday, January 4, 2010 until Friday, January 31, 2011 with most expenses being covered. It is expected that people completing the course will be employed at the regional hospitals.

There will be assessment committees set up for each of the projects to screen and select the candidates also monitor the candidates and projects.
