Nuclear Operator

Duties

Working as a Nuclear Operator is an extremely rewarding experience. They typically spend their days within designated area monitoring equipment and systems to ensure all safety level and procedures are strictly adhered to. They constantly monitor system pressure, temperatures, water levels, and report and record abnormal conditions. Task may be repetitive, but they are essential to the role of Nuclear Operator and the safety of everyone.

Salary - Certified

$ 43.42 ( Starting Hourly Wage )

Salary - Apprentice

$ 20.50 ( Starting Training Wage )

Pay progression every six months for the first two years. Increases after two years are annual on anniversary dates.

Training Schedule

There are several specialization streams in the NO family called "streams". The Pickering facility has three streams and the Darlington facility has four streams. Every NO is assigned a stream when he is hired.

  • Stream 1 - Generating Units,
  • Stream 2 - Common Services / Unit 0,
  • Stream 3 - Fuel Handling,
  • Stream 4 - Tritium Removal Facility.

  • Pickering A & B Facility
  • Darlington

Desired Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12, with grade 12 academic stream in Math, Physics or chemistry, and English, or completion of a College Technician Course or a Technologist Diploma in a related program.
  • Applicant must pass a series of paper and pencil tests assessing areas such as reasoning, English skills, mechanical aptitude, and safety consciousness.
  • Applicant must pass a security check,
  • Applicant must be eligible to work in Canada.
